People You Should Know: danah boyd

February 27th, 2008 | by Brad King |

The life of the new media digerati is oftentimes frustrating. New technologies emerge and we immediately flock to them. We devour them, with little thought of the world that other’s inhabit. Because we don’t necessarily see the Flesh Space (yup, that’s one of the names) and Cyberspace as mutually exclusive. One doesn’t trump the other.

They exist. Together.

So I’m not ashamed to admit that I have a nerdy cyber-crush on danah boyd because she’s one of the nodes in the world the rest of us can turn to when the folks who don’t devour technology try to convince us that we are crazy for thinking the world has changed.

Descriptions won’t do her justice; still, you’re going to get one. She’s a PhD student a Berkeley and a Fellow at the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet and Society. She does research to understand Social Media.
