Mobile Access Use Increasing
March 12th, 2008 | by Brad King |Just as newspapers are starting to get their hands around banner advertising, rich media comes along. Then Adobe Air. And now: the mobile Web is quickly becoming a daily part of life (which is why I’m so sold on the Kindle), which further throws the advertising world into a tizzy.
Our recent research shows that 62 percent of American adults have either accessed the internet wirelessly or used non-voice data applications, such as texting, emailing, taking a picture, or recording video, with a handheld. On the average day, 42 percent of those with cell phones or other wireless-enabled handhelds use the devices for at least one non-voice data application.
Loads of reasons why this is important, but it brings up two points of note: Air and other offline/online interfaces are necessary in this world to make sure that media is truly cross-platform and it’s more important than ever to make sure your back-end data structures are set up in a way to deliver interactive experiences across multi-platforms.
