The News Media’s Shameful History of New Media

March 26th, 2008 | by Brad King |

I’ve become increasingly vocal about traditional media’s lack of foresight when it comes to technological innovations, so it’s nice to see some others on the grumpy train.

The point these two blogs make — and they aren’t revelatory by any stretch — is that traditional media outlets have been shameful in their adoption of new tools that allow people to easily publish a variety of content online.

The fact that papers are now struggling to catch up — and it’s frankly a fight that will likely be lost by several large organizations — is indicative of institutional thinking about technology’s impact on how we consume and create media in a modern world.
