Twitter Helps Rescue Berkeley J-School Student

April 16th, 2008 | by Brad King |

A Berkeley J-School student ended up in an Egyptian jail while working on his thesis project, a fact that the faculty found out thanks to Twitter.

Coincidentally, I was at Berkeley while this was happening — and my mentor, Paul Grabowicz, gave me the skinny on the project. What he didn’t tell me was that Twitter alerted folks to the student’s imprisonment.

As a side note, the student’s project is detailing how influential — if at all — Egyptian bloggers are in their home country.
